Distribution	Weltweit, Spanien bis Spitzbergen, Nordsee bis Kattegat Weltweit in mehreren Unterarten in allen Ozeanen außerhalb der innersten Tropen. In Europas Gewässern vor allem im Atlantik, weniger in der Nordsee und dem Kattegat, wohl nicht in der Ostsee.
Status	Irrgast vagrant
Climate dependence	kälteliebende Art Kältegebundene Art, zieht sich bei Erwärmung aus der südlichen Nordsee zurück
